RSVP of the Capital Region, Foster Grandparents, and Senior Companions celebrated National Service Recognition Day on April 3 in the SpiriTrust Lutheran Glatfelter Center at the Village at Sprenkle Drive.

York Mayor Michael Helfrich and York County Commissioner Chris Reilly presented proclamations recognizing York County volunteers. A ceremonial check for $168,426 was presented; it represented the value of volunteers’ services for 2017.

On National Service Recognition Day, thousands of local leaders take time to honor AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers by participating in recognition events, issuing official proclamations, and taking to social media in a nationwide show of appreciation.

The sixth-annual initiative was led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the National League of Cities, the National Association of Counties, and Cities of Service.
