Robert Petrie has served in a variety of roles with the American Red Cross since 2017. As a Hero Care Network family contact card caseworker, he ensures military families know they are supported during the critical times of entering the military and preparing for deployment.

Petrie, of Mechanicsburg, also volunteers as a Hero Care Network critical community services caseworker. He assists military veterans and their families with financial assistance for essential needs.

Service to others has been a part of Petrie’s life for many years. He served in the Army for three years and the Army Reserve for 18 years. He enjoys helping veterans and has found that just like in the Army, you encounter all sorts of interesting people volunteering in this position.

When Petrie’s not volunteering, he enjoys reading and tennis. His advice related to volunteering and veterans is: “We can do more for veterans than just thanking them for their service.”

The American Red Cross helps members of the military, veterans, and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service, providing 24/7 global emergency communication services and other support in military and veteran healthcare facilities.

RSVP of the Capital Region recruits volunteers for local nonprofits such as the American Red Cross and passionately promotes seniors as powerful contributors to our neighborhoods and community organizations that desperately need additional human resources.

At the same time, volunteers themselves are enhanced by the volunteer experience, often displaying visible improvement.
