Are you 55+ and active? Looking to exercise your body, mind, and spirit with likeminded people in your community?

If so, you may be interested in attending the 2018 Lancaster Senior Games, May 7-11, at Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim.

The Lancaster Senior Games is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2018. Since its founding in 1989, thousands of athletes have participated in the games, and hundreds are expected to compete this year.

Presiding over the games as this year’s honorary chairperson will be Lancaster resident Heide Moebius. Already an accomplished tennis player, downhill skier, and horseback rider, at age 55 Moebius took up running and has spent the last 20 years competing internationally in nearly 700 races.

With the guidance and support of her coach and husband, Richard, Moebius has earned 19 gold medals in the Lancaster Senior Games, more than 30 medals at the state games, and 19 at the National Senior Olympics.

Her time of 6 minutes, 56 seconds for the 1,500-meter race at the 2009 Senior Olympics still stands as the national record for the 70-75 age group.

Moebius has been featured in numerous articles in Running Times and Running World. She has been honored with several awards, including a listing in Master Road Runners of the Year since 2007, with a No. 3 national ranking in 2015.

She was also chosen as the 2015 Long-Distance Runner Master Female Athlete of the Year by USATF Mid-Atlantic Association.
