Melven, the first therapy dog for StoneRidge Retirement Living Communities in Myerstown, recently celebrated his completion of therapy-dog training with a “Therapy Certification PAWty” at the community.

Surrounded by his StoneRidge team members and residents, Melven received his therapy certificate from Pawsitive Hearts Pet Therapy & Rescue and enjoyed a dog-bone celebration cake.

As a therapy dog, Melven visits with residents and greets visitors at the door with his friendly and affectionate demeanor.

Through his training, Melven has learned various commands and has been socialized to the sounds and equipment of a nursing home. He has also learned important manners, such as not jumping.

Research shows therapy dogs bring significant social, emotional, and overall health benefits for older adults; StoneRidge staff members also rely on Melven for stress relief and morale boosts.
