Nearly 300 people attended Fredricksen Library’s recent 60th anniversary kickoff event at the West Shore Country Club in Camp Hill.
The evening featured a sit-down dinner and live and silent auctions that raised over $30,000.
The Camp Hill Library, as it was first known, opened on April 16, 1957, using shelf space at the former Schaeffer Elementary School. It quickly outgrew its space and moved to the Camp Hill American Legion’s Log Cabin Home on South 22nd Street.
The library would relocate two more times before moving to its current location in January 2001 as the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library. Today, it is the busiest library in Cumberland County, circulating over 850,000 items annually.
On June 9, the library will host a 60th birthday party in conjunction with the kickoff of its Summer Learning Program. The event is open to the public.
