Quilt of Valor

Col. Robert D. Wilcox, World War II Air Force veteran and longtime veterans columnist for 50plus LIFE, was awarded a Quilt of Valor during a recent meeting of his local chapter of the Military Officers Association.

Quilts of Valor are awarded to deserving veterans and active service members for their service to the nation. The Quilt of Valor is a lifetime award.

Wilcox’s quilt was approved by the national Quilt of Valor Foundation and produced by the Quilt of Valor team from the Red Rose Quilters Guild, represented at the presentation by Dorothy Shuman and Dina Cerase.

Wilcox has served the MOAA since 1988 in various capacities, including chapter president, member, newsletter editor, and other roles.

He also penned 50plus LIFE’s monthly Salute to a Veteran column for more than 16 years, preserving and illuminating the personal wartime stories of more than 200 veterans. Fifty of those stories were published in book form in 2016.
