This month the RSVP York volunteer spotlight is on Deann Conroy.

Conroy volunteers at McKinley K-8, a City of York Title I school with a priority federal accountability designation. She assists in teaching the youngest students how to read.

Using her creative side, Conroy enjoys finding different ways to teach the children so that they can understand and master reading. She takes pleasure in getting to know each child individually and having them greet her with “Good morning, Mrs. C.”

Believing that every child should have fun memories of school parties, Conroy planned and paid for each classroom’s parties throughout the school year.

Conroy was the first in her family to graduate from college and spent her career as a government attorney in Denver, Colorado. She and her husband of 27 years, Scott Conroy, moved to York a little over a year ago to be geographically closer to their grown daughters.
