The York County Area Agency on Aging will host free educational workshops to learn about the “10 Keys™ to Healthy Aging” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 23 to Feb. 20, at the Eastern Branch YMCA at OHANA, 4075 E. Market St., Suite 20, York.

The workshops will be taught by a certified health ambassador and APPRISE counselors through the Area Agency on Aging and in partnership with the Eastern Branch YMCA at OHANA.

Developed by the Center for Aging and Population Health at the University of Pittsburgh, along with the CDC Prevention Research Center, this health-promotion program provides many no-cost and low-cost preventative services to promote successful aging.

Each of the “10 Keys”™ is an important step in preventing disease and improving quality of life. They include:

1. Lowering systolic blood pressure

2. Stopping smoking

3. Participating in cancer screenings

4. Getting immunized regularly

5. Regulating blood glucose

6. Lowering LDL cholesterol

7. Being physically active

8. Maintaining healthy bones, joints, and muscles

9. Maintaining social contact

10. Combating depression

A resource manual will be provided that provides a wealth of information on preventative, proven strategies that work.

Light refreshments will be served. Preregistration is required.
