The day’s overcast skies could not keep residents and staff of Senior Commons at Powder Mill from participating in the annual Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

“We see the effects of Alzheimer’s disease every day, but this disease does not define our memory care residents. I’m hopeful for a cure, and with everyone’s efforts we can help lead the way to Alzheimer’s first survivor,” said Memory Care Director Katy Barrington.

This year’s walk was slightly different from previous years, which typically joins hundreds of people from communities all over York County at John C. Rudy Park.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions on large in-person gatherings and participants’ safety, the 2020 walk was everywhere, with participants taking to sidewalks, tracks, and trails in their communities.

The Senior Commons team happily hit the hallways and walking paths around their senior community.

“This was such a wonderful event for such an important cause. I had so much fun!” said resident Judy Jones.

So far, the Senior Commons team has raised over $1,600.
